Ingredients
  

  • 8 ounces penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust to taste
  • 1 can 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Method
 

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add the cooked penne to the skillet with the sauce, tossing to combine and heat through for about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.
