Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes adjust to taste
  • 1 cup cooked rice white or brown
  • 1/2 cup green onions chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup sliced cucumbers
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Method

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Pour this mixture over the cooked beef, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. While the beef is simmering, prepare the rice according to package instructions if not already cooked.
  5. To assemble the bowls, place a serving of rice in each bowl. Top with the savory ground beef mixture.
  6. Garnish with chopped green onions, shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve warm.
