Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour Whole wheat flour can be used for a nuttier flavor.
  • 1 cup Warm Water Ensure it's warm, not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast Use fresh yeast for the best rise.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor and balances the taste profile.
  • 3 cloves Fresh Garlic Fresh is best, but dried can be a quick substitute.
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Rosemary Use half the amount if replacing with dried.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Can swap for melted butter for richness.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • wire rack

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm water with 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Next, add 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 3 cloves of chopped fresh garlic, and 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh rosemary. Stir with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it vigorously for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and allow it to rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  5. Once risen, punch the dough down to release air, shape it into a loaf, and let it rise again for 30 minutes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a shallow dish of water on the lower rack and bake the bread for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Remove the bread from the oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
