  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt
  • 1 pkg Active Dry Yeast about 2 ¼ tsp
  • 1 cup Milk warmed to 100-110°F
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 10 tbsp Unsalted Butter very soft and cubed
For the Finish
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • ¼ cup Water

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling by mixing softened cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and almond extract until smooth. Divide and tint with food coloring.
  2. Make the Dough by whisking flour, sugar, and salt. Activate yeast in warm milk, then combine with eggs and vanilla.
  3. Incorporate the Butter by kneading the soft butter into the dough until cohesive. Let it rise until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Babka by rolling out the dough, spreading the cream cheese filling, and rolling it into a log.
  5. Twist the Dough by cutting the log in half and twisting the two halves together before placing in the loaf pan.
  6. Allow for a Second Rise by covering the pan and letting it rise again prior to baking.
  7. Bake the Babka in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Finish with Sugar Syrup by heating sugar and water until dissolved, brushing over the warm babka.
