- Preheat your oven according to the chocolate cake mix package instructions. Prepare the cake mix using the required eggs, water, and vegetable oil, then bake in a greased 9x13 inch pan until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the chocolate cake to cool completely in the pan for at least 30 minutes.
- While your cake cools, take the vanilla ice cream out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to soften.
- Once the cake is cooled, spread the softened vanilla ice cream evenly over the top, and then place the pan back into the freezer for about 30 minutes.
- Warm the hot fudge sauce slightly in the microwave for about 20 seconds, then pour it over the ice cream layer and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle your choice of toppings over the hot fudge sauce, press them in gently, and then cover the pan with plastic wrap or foil.
- Freeze for at least 4 hours or until solid. When ready to serve, let the bars sit at room temperature for a couple of minutes before cutting into squares.
