Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven according to the chocolate cake mix package instructions. Prepare the cake mix using the required eggs, water, and vegetable oil, then bake in a greased 9x13 inch pan until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the chocolate cake to cool completely in the pan for at least 30 minutes.
  2. While your cake cools, take the vanilla ice cream out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to soften.
  3. Once the cake is cooled, spread the softened vanilla ice cream evenly over the top, and then place the pan back into the freezer for about 30 minutes.
  4. Warm the hot fudge sauce slightly in the microwave for about 20 seconds, then pour it over the ice cream layer and spread evenly.
  5. Sprinkle your choice of toppings over the hot fudge sauce, press them in gently, and then cover the pan with plastic wrap or foil.
  6. Freeze for at least 4 hours or until solid. When ready to serve, let the bars sit at room temperature for a couple of minutes before cutting into squares.
