Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, coarsely ground black pepper, and grated shallot. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a round patty, about 1 inch thick.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, adding olive oil and butter. Sear the patties for about 5 minutes on each side.
  4. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium. Add diced shallots and minced garlic, and sauté for about 1 minute.
  5. Stir in yellow mustard, additional salt, and pepper. Sprinkle in the flour, cooking for another minute while stirring constantly.
  6. Pour in the whiskey slowly, deglazing the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 3 minutes.
  7. Stir in beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and add in the cream, stirring until smooth.
  8. Return the seared hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning the creamy sauce over each patty. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Remove from heat, sprinkle chopped chives over the top, and serve hot with creamy whiskey sauce.
