- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
- Layer half of the cubed bread in the greased baking dish, then sprinkle half of the chopped pecans over the bread. Repeat with remaining bread and top with remaining pecans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, orange zest, cinnamon, and salt. Pour this custard mixture evenly over the layered bread and pecans.
- Combine melted butter with dark brown sugar, additional cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Stir until combined, then drizzle over the casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 35-45 minutes until golden brown and crispy on top. A slight jiggle in the center is okay.
- Allow the casserole to cool for about 10 minutes, then slice into squares and serve warm.
