Description

Warm and Gooey Southern Chocolate Cobbler is a decadent dessert that combines a rich chocolate cake with a luscious sauce underneath, perfect for serving warm.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and fully incorporated. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and hot water until the sugar is dissolved. Carefully pour this mixture over the batter in the baking dish. Do not stir; it will create a sauce underneath the cobbler.
  5. If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly over the top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Allow the cobbler to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. It is best enjoyed warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or espresso powder to the batter for an extra depth of flavor.
