Description

Tandoori Chicken is a flavorful and aromatic dish made by marinating chicken pieces in a spiced yogurt mixture and then grilling or baking them to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds chicken pieces (legs, thighs, or breasts)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons tandoori masala spice blend
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
  • Lemon wedges, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, vegetable oil, lemon juice, garlic, ginger, tandoori masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to create a marinade.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F. If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Discard the remaining marinade.
  5. Grill the chicken for about 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the chicken is charred and cooked through. If using an oven, place the chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 30-35 minutes, turning halfway through.
  6. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill or oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper or chili powder to the marinade.
  • Serve the tandoori chicken with naan bread or over a bed of basmati rice for a complete meal.
