Description
A delicious and crispy French toast recipe coated with cornflakes for a golden crunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 slices of thick bread (such as Texas toast or challah)
- 1/4 cup crushed cornflakes
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Maple syrup, for serving
- Powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter, allowing it to melt and coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated. Let any excess drip off.
- Press each coated slice into the crushed cornflakes, ensuring an even layer sticks to both sides.
- Place the coated bread slices onto the hot skillet or griddle. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Add more butter as needed for cooking.
- Once cooked, remove from the skillet and serve immediately with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar, if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, try mixing in a tablespoon of orange zest or a splash of almond extract into the egg mixture.
- Substitute the cornflakes with crushed graham crackers or panko breadcrumbs for a different texture.
