Description

A delicious twist on classic sloppy joes, featuring buttery garlic bread topped with a savory beef mixture and melted cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large French bread loaves
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, and salt until well combined.
  3. Slice the French bread loaves in half lengthwise and place them on a baking sheet, cut side up. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and mustard. Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over the garlic buttered bread halves. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges of the bread are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For added flavor, try mixing in some chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the sloppy joe mixture.
  • You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • For a vegetarian version, use lentils or a meat substitute in place of the ground beef.
