Description

Delicious BBQ Chicken with a homemade sauce that brings out the flavors of summer grilling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs or drumsticks
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F to 400°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub this spice mixture all over the chicken pieces.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Place the chicken on the grill and cook for about 25-30 minutes, turning occasionally, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  5. During the last 5 minutes of grilling, brush the chicken with the homemade BBQ sauce, allowing it to caramelize slightly.
  6. Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter BBQ sauce, add an extra tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • Try using chicken breasts instead of thighs for a leaner option.
  • Serve with coleslaw or corn on the cob for a complete meal.
